These terms, together with the license terms below, govern your use of Clamshell, a menu-bar application for macOS. Clamshell is provided by Matyas Rathonyi, a sole trader established in Hungary ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [email protected].
By downloading, installing, or using Clamshell, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the app.
Who you buy from
When you purchase a Clamshell license, your order is sold to you by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our Merchant of Record. This means Lemon Squeezy is the seller of record for the transaction and is responsible for processing your payment, charging and remitting any applicable taxes, issuing invoices, and handling refunds and payment disputes. Your purchase is also subject to Lemon Squeezy's Buyer Terms.
We are the maker and licensor of the software itself. The terms on this page are the license under which we provide Clamshell to you.
Your license
Subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Clamshell on one Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later that you own or control, for your personal or internal business use.
Your license is delivered as a license key. The app validates your key online once when you activate it, then verifies your entitlement offline. A key is bound to one Mac at a time; to move to a new Mac, deactivate the license on the old one from the app settings (or contact support if the old Mac is no longer available).
The software is licensed, not sold
We license the use of Clamshell to you. We do not sell the software itself or transfer ownership of it. We retain all rights that are not expressly granted to you here.
Acceptable use
Clamshell keeps your Mac awake while the lid is closed using a documented, unprivileged macOS power-management call; the internal display turns off and the Mac wakes when you open the lid. It installs no kernel extension, requires no administrator or root access, and uses no private Apple entitlements.
You agree not to:
- copy, redistribute, resell, rent, or sublicense the software;
- share, publish, or attempt to circumvent license keys or activation limits;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction (for example, for interoperability under EU law);
- remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices;
- use the software beyond the scope of the plan you have purchased.
Intellectual property
Clamshell, its source code, design, and the "Clamshell" name are owned by us and protected by intellectual-property laws. Your license grants you no ownership of, or rights in, our intellectual property other than the right to use the software as set out here.
Trial and license
Clamshell offers a 7-day free trial. The trial requires no payment and no payment details, and it does not automatically convert into a paid plan or charge you anything. When the trial ends, you can purchase a license to keep using the app.
Clamshell is sold as a one-time purchase (USD 9.99): a single payment with no subscription and no recurring charge. Prices are shown at checkout and may change for future purchases; a change never affects a license you already own.
Refunds
We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee, and refunds are processed by Lemon Squeezy as our Merchant of Record. See our Refund Policy for the full details. Nothing in these terms limits any statutory rights you may have as a consumer.
Updates
We may provide updates, fixes, and improvements to Clamshell at our discretion. Some updates may be necessary for continued correct operation. We do not guarantee that any particular feature will be maintained indefinitely.
Disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Clamshell is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted or error-free operation. This does not limit or exclude any guarantees or rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law that cannot be waived.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, Clamshell, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for your license. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Term and termination
These terms apply for as long as you use Clamshell. Your license ends when your trial expires without a purchase, or if you materially breach these terms. On termination you must stop using the software and remove it from your devices.
Privacy
Our handling of your data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Hungary, and the courts of Hungary have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence, and it does not affect your right to bring proceedings in your local courts where the law allows.
Changes, severability, and contact
We may update these terms from time to time; we will post the revised version here with a new "last updated" date. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Questions about these terms can be sent to [email protected].
