Clamshell is a menu bar app that keeps an Apple Silicon MacBook awake with the lid closed, with no external display, sudo or admin rights. The built-in display stays black while your agents, builds and downloads keep running. There is one paid edition; you only choose how many Macs it covers.
How the free trial works
Download Clamshell and use it free for 7 days. The trial asks for no payment details, and it does not automatically turn into a paid plan or charge you anything. When the trial ends, you can buy a license to keep using the app. If it does not fit your workflow, simply stop using it and remove it.
Use the trial to check the things that matter on your own Mac: that it arms from the menu bar, that your job keeps running with the lid closed, and that the Mac locks and wakes cleanly when you open the lid. Clamshell needs an Apple Silicon Mac laptop on macOS 14 or later.
One Mac or three?
Your license arrives as a key in your purchase email. Clamshell checks it online once when you activate it, then verifies your entitlement offline. A one-Mac key is bound to one Mac at a time, and a 3-Mac key activates Clamshell on up to three Macs. To move to a new Mac, deactivate the license on the old one from the app settings; if the old Mac is gone, email support.
Is there a subscription?
No. Clamshell is a one-time purchase: a single payment with no recurring charge. Prices may change for future purchases, but a change never affects a license you already own. Checkout is handled by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record, so the charge on your statement comes from Lemon Squeezy.
The 14-day money-back guarantee
If Clamshell is not right for you, email [email protected] within 14 days of your purchase, for any reason, with the email you used at checkout or your order details. The full terms are in the refund policy.
Clamshell on Setapp
If you already use Setapp, Clamshell is also available in its catalog at setapp.com/apps/clamshell. The Setapp edition is distributed and billed through Setapp. The direct license on this page is for people who want to buy Clamshell on its own.
Clamshell is not on the Mac App Store. The free App Store app called Clamshell is a different, unrelated app.
